WORD LADDER

Have you ever done a word ladder?  They're fun!  In a word ladder, you start with one word and turn it into another word, step by step.

On each step of the ladder, you change just one letter to make a new word.  All of the words have to be real words.  No made-up words, please!

For example, you could do a word ladder from DOG to CAT.  Here's one way:

    D    O    G
    D    O    T
    C    O    T
    C    A    T

You could also do it this way:

    D    O    G
    C    O    G
    C    O    T
    C    A    T

There are lots of other ways to do it.  For most people, the fun of a word ladder is to try to do it in as few steps as possible.  But I also like all the great words you can make if you take a long time to get there.  So don't worry if it takes you lots of steps.  Sometimes the journey is more fun than the destination.

So, are you ready for your Word Ladder challenge?  Yes?

Mr. Fish would like to know:  Can you make a word ladder from POUT to KISS, changing one letter each step of the ladder?  Every word on the ladder should be a real word.

There are several "right" answers, so just have fun with it.  See what you can come up with.  After you've solved the puzzle (try not to give up -- you can do it!) click here to get the answer.  (It's way down at the end of this page.)

There are several ways to solve this word ladder.  I like your solution!  Here's mine:

P    O    U    T
P    O    S    T
P    A    S    T
M   A    S    T
M    I    S    T
M    I    S    S
K    I    S    S

My Mom tried the word ladder and came up with a solution that's one step shorter than mine!  Here's hers:

P    O    U    T
P    O    S    T
M   O    S    T
M   O    S    S
M    I    S    S
K     I    S    S
